Welcome to Marymount College, Hove, Adelaide, South Australia.  Marymount was established in 1956 as one of the many schools throughout Australia under the care of the Good Samaritan Sisters.  The Good Samaritan Sisters are celebrating 150 years of their ministry in 2007.

Marymount provides an exciting and challenging Catholic educational program for girls in a middle school setting.  During Years 6 – 9 our girls form lasting friendships, further develop self-confidence and consolidate their learning skills in preparation for senior secondary studies.

Inspired by the Good Samaritan values of hospitality, stewardship, and compassion along with the gospel values of love, justice, reconciliation and peace, the school fosters involvement, empowerment and discovery.   We encourage students to explore their potential, take responsibility for themselves and others and engage in the local and global community.  Self-motivated learning and the pursuit of excellence are part of our learning philosophy.

Having completed 50 years of education in the Good Samaritan Tradition we have every reason to be proud of our achievements and positive about our future.  We are a forward looking school but celebrate our history and foundations.  It is important to all of us that our school not only knows where it is going but also the vision and dream it was founded on.

Inspired by the Prime Minister of Singapore, we are engaged in dramatic curriculum renewal in answer to the question: “What will Marymount be like 40 years from now?”  We can’t tell you.  Nobody can.  But we can tell you that it must be a totally different Marymount because if it is the same Marymount as it is today, we will be obsolete.  Our teaching will be irrelevant, inconsequential as learning and the world will be different.  We may want to be the same, but we can’t be the same.  Therefore, we have to remake Marymount – our learning curriculum, our learning structures, our mindsets, our buildings!”

As we continue to unravel the potential of Marymount College as an inspirational place to learn, teach and work, we must ensure that the learning experiences of our community are rich, multi-dimensional and provide skills and competencies we need to succeed in the future but also to ensure a sustainable future for our planet.  Our future should be seen as the next phase in our journey, not as a blueprint and it is important to recognise that change will unfold in non-linear ways.  We have identified three concepts that lie behind our future planning: “seeding the vision”, “weaving the tapestry of multiple change” and encouraging a “ready, fire, aim” approach.  We have five overarching principles for future development, enabling us to better meet the needs of the 21st century learner: faith formation, deep learning, sustainable leadership, nurturing a community of learners and eco-literacy.

Complementing our identity as a Year 6 to Year 9 Middle School is the reception to Year 12 educational perspective that the College enjoys as we work closely with our Tier One feeder Schools, our parallel “brother” middle school: Sacred Heart College Middle and our local Catholic co-educational Tier Three School, Sacred Heart College Senior. Ongoing renewal of our transition programs between the different tiers ensures good continuity of education for our girls.

Set near the beach Marymount College, students and staff appreciate very pleasant surroundings and excellent educational facilities, within the school and the local community.  Students access state-of-the-art specialist areas and extensive outdoor playing fields on-site.  The school is committed to fostering the use of information and communication technology in teaching and learning.

Parents support the College in a range of ways to enhance the educational and strong co-curricular and extra-curricular programs we offer. As well as their involvement on the School Board, Parents and Friends, Canteen and Tri-Schools uniform shop, parents are involved in numerous other volunteer activities. To further enhance and develop our facilities parents commit themselves to support the Foundation we share with the Sacred Heart Colleges.
